About Joe

Joe Major’s connection to Vermont isn’t something he had to build—it’s something he’s lived every day.

A native of Buffalo, New York, he grew up with values that he carries to this day: hard work, community, and a deep respect for the land and the people who call it home. Joe learned early on that neighbors look out for one another, that showing up matters, and that small actions can have a big impact. Those lessons stayed with him and continue to guide how he approaches both his personal and professional life.

Professionally, Joe has dedicated his career to service and leadership. As Executive Director of the Upper Valley Aquatic Center, he has worked to expand access to health, wellness, and youth programming for families across the region. Under his leadership, the Aquatic Center has become more than just a facility—it’s a gathering place where people of all ages come to learn, grow, and connect. From teaching children how to swim to creating opportunities for seniors to stay active, Joe has focused on building programs that strengthen both individuals and the community as a whole.

His community involvement extends well beyond his professional role. Joe has been an active presence in local initiatives, working alongside volunteers, educators, and local leaders to address challenges and create opportunities. He understands that Vermont’s strength lies in its people, and he’s always been willing to roll up his sleeves and be part of the solution.

Joe’s path to public service came naturally from these experiences. He saw firsthand the challenges facing Vermont families—rising costs, access to services, and the need to support working communities—while also recognizing the incredible potential of the state. He decided to run for the Vermont State Senate not because of politics, but because he wanted to make a difference for the people and communities he knows so well.

In Montpelier, Joe brings a practical, grounded approach to his work. He listens first, values collaboration, and focuses on results that matter to everyday Vermonters. His decisions are shaped by the same principles he learned growing up: be honest, work hard, and do right by your neighbors.

At the end of the day, Joe Major is not just a senator—he’s a Vermonter through and through. A neighbor, a public servant, a community leader, and someone who believes deeply in the future of this state. His commitment to Vermont isn’t about a title; it’s about continuing to serve the place and people he’s proud to call home.
